About Art on the Town
Art on the Town is a multi-studio creative venue located in the heart of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin,
serving students of all ages and abilities. With 34 years of classroom teaching experience, our lead
instructor brings professional educator expertise directly into the studio setting — combining
structured curriculum with the freedom of hands-on creative exploration.
Our facility includes a dedicated teaching studio, a stained glass studio, and a jewelry and bead
shop. We are actively expanding through The Art Lofts @ Art on the Town, a growing creative
community hub on our second floor. We are proud to partner with schools, nonprofits, and
community organizations across Dodge and Fond du Lac Counties.
Program Overview
This proposal outlines a six-session ceramics series designed specifically for homeschool groups.
The program introduces students to both pottery wheel throwing and hand-building techniques,
building foundational skills progressively across visits. Each session is structured with a clear
learning objective, brief demonstration, and generous hands-on studio time.
This series is designed to complement homeschool learning in art, science (material properties,
chemistry of firing), and critical thinking (design process, problem solving). We welcome groups of
all experience levels — no prior clay experience is required.
Six-Session Curriculum

Note: Sessions 1–5 include clay work time. All pieces are fired in our kiln between sessions.
Finished, fired work is collected at Session 6. Sessions 1 – 2 are $15 each. Sessions 3 – 5 are $35 each. The final session 6 is $5.

Investment & Scheduling

Why Ceramics for Homeschoolers?
Ceramics is one of the most cross-disciplinary art forms available. A single clay session can teach:
• Science: material states, chemistry of glaze and firing, thermal properties
• Math: measurement, symmetry, proportion, and geometric form
• History: ancient cultures and global ceramic traditions
• Critical thinking: problem-solving through design iteration and material constraints
• Social-emotional learning: patience, persistence, collaboration, and pride in craftsmanship
Our educator-led structure ensures sessions are purposeful and connected — not just activity time,
but genuine learning experiences.
